Fluid-Structure Interaction

A viscous fluid is being pumped through a reservoir. Within the reservoir, there is a ball, i.e. a rigid body. The motion of the ball depends on the fluid flow and the fluid flow depends on the motion of the ball. This coupling of fluid dynamics and rigid body motion is an example of fluid-structure interaction.

A more detailed description of this fluid-structure interaction problem is available here.
Details on the numerical solution can be found in

Discrete Projection Methods for Incompressible Fluid Flow Problems and Application to a Fluid-Structure Interaction Problem , Proceedings of the 2005 Femlab Conference, p. 317-322, ISBN 3000172114
