Numerical Analysis Group

Our research is mainly focused on numerical mathematics. We are interested in the numerical solution of time dependent ordinary and partial differential equations, numerical linear algebra, and numerical methods for image processing.

    Andreas Sturm wins best student paper prize at the 12th International Conference on Mathematical and Numerical Aspects of Waves (Waves 2015) in Karlsruhe. The paper is available here.

  • 22.05.2015 CRC 1173 is coming!

    Happy news, CRC 1173 »Wave phenomena: analysis and numerics« will be funded by the DFG. It will start in July 1st, 2015.

    Our member Lukas Fath has successfully applied for an DAAD grant and will stay in Toronto, Canada, from April to September. His work will be supervised by Prof. Chandra Veer Singh's at the Laboratory for Computational Materials Engineering. We wish him a good time.

  • 18.01.2014 Hermann-Billing prize-giving ceremony

    The Hermann-Billing prize honors the best diploma- and PhD theses of a department. This year the Department of Mathematics was selected to grant this award.
    The prize for the best diploma thesis was awarded to our member David Hipp. Rainer Mandel from the Institute for Analysis received the award for his PhD thesis.
